Why? - FAQs
Why? Is one of the first questions we start to ask. And we probably never stop asking it. We are sure you have
a number of whys concerning your site and Clearly Web Designs. Here we will try and answer the question of
why you should use Clearly Web Designs, and also some others you may have.
Why would I want a web site?
Over the past few years the internet has really taken off, especially since the introduction of broadband. Due to this people are now
looking for something they need on the internet. This is especially true of commodities that are easier to view from your desk than
trapesing round the shops. But even if people want a service they are just as likely to look on the internet at sites such as Yell, as they
are to pick up a phone directory. It is therefore becoming more important to have a web presence.
Why would a church want a web site?
Having moved from West Yorkshire to Newark we recently decided to go along to different local churches, but we had problems trying to find
out which churches were likely to suit our tradition, or to find times of services without driving round to churches. Even churches,
therefore, need to reach the public, so it is becoming more important to have a web presence. Not only to let people know about your
church, but as a form of evangelism as well.
Why should I use Clearly Web Designs?
We believe you should choose our company for a number of reasons.
- Clarity. Have you ever gone to a site to find a particular piece of information only to spend ages looking
for it and possibly give up because the sites pages were so crowded or messy? - We will produce a clear, uncluttered design. This will
make your information easily accessible to people who view your sight.
- Ease of Navigation. Or visited a site that concentrated so much on looking stylish, or on showing off the
designers skill that you had to move your mouse around to discover the 'buttons' or way in? - We will make sure your site is easy to
navigate and has no dead ends. We work on a '3 click principle', that is that any point on your site should be reachable from any other
point with a maximum of three mouse clicks. Though usually we would include some form of menu/buttons on every page so that one click
is all that is needed!
- Compatibility. We test our sites not only with the main browsers used on Windows. ie Internet Explorer,
Mozilla and Opera. But we also check them with a number of Linux browsers such as Konqueror, Epiphany, Mozilla, Firefox, and Opera. We do
this because Linux is growing in popularity and is now the second most common platform. Also if it is viewable by Linux browsers it will
be viewable on other Unix platforms. so you can be sure your site is viewable by as large an audience as possible.
- Accessibility. we design our sites according to the W3C's (World Wide Web Consortium's) accessibility
standards. The W3C is the organisation that controls the language of web design (HTML/XHTML and CSS) and suggests the standard features that
web browsers should include and how they should interpret HTML and CSS.
- Download Size. Although broadband is becoming more common, not everyone yet has it. Indeed some will not be
able to get broadband for the foreseeable future. Download size is therefore important. The use of CSS and PHP helps to keep down the size
of files that need to be downloaded. This is another reason for not including unnecessary fancy features.
- Showcasing Your web site is meant to showcase you or your company. It is not there to show what we can do.
Therefore, as mentioned in the item above, we will not include fancy features unless they are necessary to showcase you and your company.
- Focus. We specialise purely in web site design, creation and maintenance. We do not have one eye on
hosting or other design or printing jobs. This means we will stay focussed on the job of designing and creating the site that you want.
- Listening we will listen to what you want and need. We will not try and enforce a design on you that we
have come up with before. This means your site will be individual, and fulfil the need you have for it.
Why the name 'Clearly Web Designs'?
We came up with this name for two reasons. Firstly since we do not have other sections to our business we clearly design web sites. Secondly
as explained we try to keep our designs clear and uncluttered. So 'Clearly Web Designs' seemed a good name to use.
Why the logo?
We used to own a cottage in the middle of Yorkshire's Three Peaks. From the back you got a fantastic view of Penyghent, when the weather was
clear. Unfortunately when it was raining or misty the weather obscured the view. It can be much the same with web sites. The view of the
information visitors want, or need, to see is obscured by clutter, mess or unnecessary additions. We want visitors to have as clear a view
of your information as we had of Penyghent on a clear day. Hence our logo which is a stylised view of Penyghent.
